The University of North Texas has recently completed its third Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Inventory assessing university emissions during fiscal year 2011. The Inventory revealed that UNT increased its overall emissions by 6.6% from the previous GHG Inventory for FY 2011.
The FY 2011 Inventory showed an overall increase in UNT’s emissions of 7,803.7 MT CO₂(e) (metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent) from the FY 2009 Inventory. The estimated amount of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere by UNT for FY 2009 totaled 126,673.9 MT CO₂(e).
For the fourth consecutive year, the University of North Texas will participate in the annual RecycleMania competition. RecycleMania is a friendly, national competition, and benchmarking tool for college and university recycling programs that work to promote waste reduction activities on their campuses. Supported by Keep America Beautiful, the competition spans from February 3rd to March 30th, and schools are ranked based on the highest percentage of waste diverted from landfills. The mission is to motivate students and staff at universities to recycle more and reduce waste generation.
DENTON (UNT), TX — UNT's Office of Sustainability has been busy with its UNT Sustainability Tour. Two recent groups participating in the Tour were Duncanville ISD and representatives from SuBire Business School, a private K-12 school system in Guadalajara, Mexico.
