Women & Sustainability

This course will explore the links between women, environment, population and health issues.

Topics covered will include:

  • the evolution of development discourses from colonialism to globalization to sustainable development
  • the environmental and gendered impacts of the Green Revolution and other agricultural technologies
  • water wars
  • the links between poverty, gender, and sustainable development
  • population policies
  • women's health

Students will read case studies from Asia and Africa, and also have an opportunity to interact with guest lecturers and activists who work on (and for) sustainable development locally, nationally and internationally.
