Food Day 2013
Please join us for our 2nd annual Food Day celebration at the University of North Texas. UNT Food Day is a cooperative effort between; Dining Services, UNT Sustainability, UNT Libraries and the Union Program Council. The event will feature:
10:30a - 2p Special Lunch at Kerr Cafeteria featuring Executive Chef Patrick Stark from the popular restaurant Sundown at Granada in Dallas, Texas. Chef Stark recently appeared on the Food Network Show Cutthroat Kitchen and is the founder of Mohawk Militia. This special lunch is open to the public and the cost is just $6.95 plus tax per person and is all-you-care-to-eat. For more info visit our website at http://dining.unt.edu. Chef Stark designed the menu especially for food day and the Kerr culinary team will produce it along with a special dessert that will be served by Chef Stark starting at 11:30 and will go to 12:45 on the day of the event. The menu will include:
Entrees: "Sundown Bowl" (vegan): chipotle black beans, agave sweet potatoes, crushed peanuts, and quinoa. | Texas Sloppy Joe: local ground beef with a slice of smoked Gouda topped with pickled red onions served up on a homestyle bun
Pizza "Fall Flat out" with mozzarella, rosemary, smoked chicken and topped with honey-apples.
Sides: Roasted spaghetti Squash (Locally grown) with brown butter and sage | "Herbed Couch Poatato"- herb roasted red potato with thyme, garlic, and tossed w dried craisins
Dessert: This will be the star of the Mohawk Militia Ice Cream Social. Chef Stark will be meeting with students in the dining room and serving up Mohawk Militia Ice Cream. This will be a vanilla ice cream with cherries, and chunks of dark chocolate - encompassing the colors of his charity Mohawk Militia Chef Stark will be serving this up using a Cherry Kirsch flambé (setting it on fire). The Kerr Ice Cream experts will be making this ice cream from scratch as always and it should be an exciting event
12p - 1p Pumpkin pie judging contest. 3 guest judges will be tasting pies from around the metroplex to determine who has the best tasting pumpkin pie. This event is being hosted by the UNT Eco-Reps
12p - 3p Local farmers market and sustainability fair on the library mall.
1:30 - 3p Not only does Chef Patrick Stark Rock in the kitchen but watch as him and his band, Amusé, rock the Library Mall big stage using recycled kitchen instruments (percussion)
3p - 5p Film viewing and Q & A. Watch the movie Future of Food and join the conversation with Q & A hosted by Selena Smith, Nutritional Health Coach | Natural Grocers of Denton. Located in Chilton Hall, room 111.
6p - 8p UNT Speaks OUT! Located in the Willis Library Forum. Special guest lectures will include:
