UNT Sustainability Intern Takes Honey Business to Local Market

DENTON, TX – Most high school summer jobs involve fast food, merchandise, swimming pools, or babysitting, but that’s not the case for Jarod Hoover, a student at Weatherford High School in Weatherford, Texas. Instead, he’s spent the summer before his junior year building his own business.

Hoover owns and runs Hoover Honey, a beekeeping and honey business, with the help of his grandfather. After reading news reports on declining bee populations around the country, he started the business with no prior knowledge of beekeeping.

"I heard that bees were dying out and I wanted to help," Hoover said. "Since then it’s grown bigger and I decided to turn it into a business."
